Dogs and cats aren’t the only adoptable pets at the Ottawa Humane Society! The OHS has gerbils, rabbits, degus, guinea pigs, rats, hamsters, mice, birds and other small animals. In fact, we have almost double the number of small animals this year (44) in our new facility as we did last year at this time!
Adopting a small pet can be a great experience. These friendly, easy-to-care-for pets are very social and benefit from regular handling and interaction with their owners. A small animal could be perfect for you if:
- You want a pet, but don’t have the energy for daily dog walks or jogs
- You don’t like having a big furry pet following you or jumping on your lap
- You think small animals like ferrets and chinchillas are fascinating and you want to learn more about them
Before adopting a small animal, be sure you have taken the time to learn about their specific requirements and behaviours. The OHS Adoption counsellors are happy to provide you with the information you need and to help make the best match for you.
