People notice Sophia’s tongue before anything else. This sweet five year old spayed female Beagle doesn’t mind: she’s happy to for any type of attention! She loves long walks, playing fetch with her tennis ball, and – like all beagles – food! She gets along with other dogs but enjoys chasing cats and other small pets. To learn more about Sophia (A116658), contact the Ottawa Humane Society at 613-725-3166 ext. 258 or at adoptions@ottawahumane.ca.

Mikah the Pretty Kitty
Mikah (A115408) is a very pretty feline who is 4 year old, spayed female and looking for a new home. She loves to spend her days relaxing in the home and looking out the windows, soaking up the sun. She loves to lounge. She has special kind of feline personality… she is conflicted when it comes to other animals. She prefers the company of adult humans who can understand her needs and preferences (children and elderly may have a difficult time dealing with her needs, e.g. not snuggling her or issues with trimming her nails).
Mikah refuses to share her space with other felines and being the princess she is, only likes attention when she asks for it. She likes all four paws on the ground unless she puts them elsewhere; like getting on the couch to sit next to you. She is a princess and should be regarded as such and deserves to be treated like one.
If you are looking for an independent feline who is just looking to spend the rest of her days in a comfy home, she may be just the feline friend for you! Contact the Ottawa Humane Society at 613-725-3166 ext. 258 or adoptions@ottawahumane.ca.

Grooming Dryer for the New Building
A puppy and his five siblings are found abandoned in a crate. They've been left there for days. Three tiny kittens found in a garbage chute, treated as trash. These animals were fortunate to be found and make their way to the Ottawa Humane Society.
Besides immediate veterinary care and food, these little creatures needed baths. Baths aren't fun, but they are a neccessary part of proper animal care.
That's why we're asking for your help to purchase a grooming dryer for a new building. The grooming dryer helps animals at our shelter by drying them after baths and keeping them warm as they rest in their cages.
Help us help future animals: make a donation towards a new grooming dryer.
Rhonda the Gerbil: OHS Pet of the Week
What's cute, small, and active? Rhonda the Gerbil (A117367)! Gerbils make great pets as they are fun to watch. These busy critters love to dig, love to chew, and love to run in their wheels. Gerbils are social animals so they are best kept in same-sex pairs. The Ottawa Humane Society currently has twenty gerbils looking for new homes! To learn more about these fun small pets, contact the OHS at 613-725-3166 ext. 258 or adoptions@ottawahumane.ca.

Two Cat Photo Bloopers
Harley doesn't appreciate being woken up from a nap.
Luna would rather sharpen her talons than sitting pretty for the camera!

Progress to date on the new building!
MP Lundy, our contractors, tell us that they are a few days ahead of schedule. Making it through the clearing and fill portion of the project was a relief, as even though tested, soils can differ only metres apart and this can be a risk for meeting budget. The costs of this phase were pretty close to bang on though. And now, most of the concrete footings are complete as well. Pouring the concrete pad will be the next phase, and this will be complex, as the pad will accommodate the many drains that are necessary in the facility.
